It began in 1945 when German army doctor Dr. Klaus Maertens developed a cushioned rubber sole for rehabilitation. In 1960, the British footwear manufacturer Griggs partnered to produce and sell the boots, establishing the brand. Initially popular as work boots among British workers, they later spread worldwide through subcultures such as punk.
