1977年東京生まれ。ジェム・アッサンブラージュ・アーティスト。8mmの天然石ビーズ（丸玉）を用い、それぞれの鉱石が持つ色・質感・象徴性を素材として組み合わせ、意図と感覚を通じた造形を行う。明治天皇の玄孫にあたり、祖父・東園基文は1991年まで掌典長として宮中祭祀に従事。祖母・佐和子は旧宮家・北白川宮成久王の第二王女であり、明治天皇の孫にあたる。幼少期より能楽師・橋岡慈観に師事し、古典芸能における型や間合いに親しむ。また、日本画家・東園基昭を兄に持ち、日々の暮らしの中に自然と芸術がある環境で、感覚と思考の基盤を形づくってきた。一方で、テクノロジーと事業開発においても長年の経験を持ち、創造性と構築力の両面を活かした表現を探求。素材への感性と構成の論理を往復しながら、クラフトと個人性のあいだに立ち現れる造形を丁寧に編み上げている。
[Mototsune Higashizono Profile]
Born in Tokyo in 1977, Mototsune Higashizono is a Gem Assemblage Artist who works with 8mm natural stone beads—selecting and combining them by color, texture, and symbolic presence to create intentional compositions rooted in both material and intuition.He is a great-great-grandson of Emperor Meiji. His grandfather, Motofumi Higashizono, served as Grand Master of Ceremonies overseeing Imperial rites until 1991, and his grandmother, Sawako, was the second daughter of Prince Naruhisa Kitashirakawa and a granddaughter of Emperor Meiji.Having studied Noh theatre under Jikan Hashioka from a young age, he developed a sensitivity to structure, rhythm, and aesthetic restraint. His brother, Nihonga painter Motonori Higashizono, provided a setting in which art was naturally interwoven into daily life, shaping the foundation of his sensory and conceptual framework.Alongside his artistic practice, he has extensive experience in creative development and structural planning. This background informs a balanced approach—one that values both intuitive resonance and compositional logic—resulting in works that exist between craft, personal narrative, and formal clarity.

東園基恒は、鉱石の色・質感・象徴性に向き合いながら構成される装身的アッサンブラージュ作品を手がける。
小さな素材の中に潜む意味や構造をすくい上げるように、手作業で一点ずつ組み立てられた作品は、個々の存在としての静けさと確かさを宿す。
石は完成された装飾ではなく、関係性によって変化しうる構造要素として扱われる。
選定、配列、結束といったプロセスすべてが意図と感覚のバランスの中にあり、即興と構築が共存する造形となって表出する。
すべての作品は一点もの。完成後も変化や再構成を前提とし、時に修復や改編を受け入れながら、着用者とともに時間を重ねていく。
東園基恒の作品は、装身具でもクラフトでもなく、鉱石と構造、思考と個のあわいに立ち上がる、現代のアッサンブラージュのかたちである。

Higashizono Mototsune creates wearable assemblage works composed through the quiet logic of stones—guided by the interplay of color, texture, and symbolic presence.
His works are not decorative in nature, but structural in spirit. Stones are not fixed adornments, but elements in motion—open to new relationships, forms, and meanings.
Every piece is hand-assembled with a focus on composition, balance, and precision, where intention and intuition are in constant negotiation.
Each work is one-of-a-kind, and designed with change in mind. Adjustments, repairs, and reinterpretations are embraced as part of an ongoing relationship between material, maker, and wearer.
